In preparation for the start of the new academic year, we’ve updated Panopto – the software behind Aston Replay – to the latest version (4.4.1).
While there’s a lot of new features under the hood which make our lives easier, the ones you’ll need to know about are
- Support for the new iOS app, including iPad support.
- Bookmarks – Leave a bookmark at a point in a session (eg to remind you to revisit it at a later date)
- Email notifications only go to the users who contributed to the session. So if you share a module with other creators, you won’t get emailed when their sessions have processed.
If you’ve got the Panopto Recorder installed on your computer, you might need to update it to make another recording. If you’ve got admin privileges on your computer, follow the steps to apply the update. If you haven’t got admin privileges (or don’t know what they are) then contact ISA Desktop Support who will update you.
PCs in pool teaching rooms are having updates applied from today.
We’ll be down for part of the afternoon while we migrate the database over to a new server. Consider access to Replay at risk from 1400
The work yesterday was a success, so we’ve now got about 6TB of storage for recordings (compared to the 2TB of space we previously had, which we were about a fortnight away from filling).
There’ll be some more downtime next Wednesday (27th) while we work on moving the Panopto database over to a dedicated server.
Replay will be down from 1400 this afternoon for two hours, and should be considered at risk for the rest of the day.
If you see “Error connecting to server. Please try refreshing the page later.” when trying to view one of your sessions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, letting us know which session it it is happening to.

Sessions from Friday afternoon are only just processing. There’ll be a knock on effect in that sessions recorded this morning will take longer than usual to work their way through the queue.
Blackboard is available again, so you’re able to login to Panopto once more.
Blackboard is down. As we use Blackboard to handle logins to Panopto, you are currently unable to login to Panopto.
